Visit to Shell Apparels Pvt. Ltd


Department of Fashion Design organized an industrial visit to Shell Apparels Unit 3,Bramhana Kalyana Mantapa Building, Nandi road Chikkaballapur” on 4 October 2023 B. Des Fashion Design students were divided into 2 groups and visited all departments of the industry accompanied by faculty members. The term Denim” originated from the city of Nimes in France where serge de Nimes” was manufactured. Denim is made from a vat dye, the Indigo dye, which is applied to cotton fabric in loosely held form in layers. As far as the manufacturing process of denim is concerned, it is similar to that of Grey fabric up to the process of weaving with the only difference that in the case of Denim Fabric, it is dyed at the stage of sizing whereas in the case of Grey Fabric, the decision regarding dyeing stage depends upon the finished product. 

Students were divided into two groups after reaching to industry. Each group was taken all over the factory by the staff of the shell apparel and showed the complete process. The first step is, that the fabrics come as rolls and here they do a 10% inspection. Each fabric might have different defects. They then relax these fabric rolls separately for 24 hours, less than this time the fabric will be tight. The pant is then washed by either the wet or the dry process. Bleaching or laser treatment is also done. Every day the water used is 10 – 15 lakh and 90%of it will be reused for the next day. Each garment requires 45 litre of water and 97% of it is reused by using the BOD process. After washing attaching of button hooks accessories and 100% measurement checking is done and also cutting of extras id done. The pants are packed and distributed according to the shade and are dispatched. The hospitality was very good and students learned a lot from this industrial visit. 

All students were taken all over the factory by the staff of the shell apparel and showed complete process. Students practically learned processes involved in all departments of the industry.
