Visit to Sahara Art and Craft Shopping Festival and Canara Art and Crafts


The Visit to Sahara Art and Craft Shopping Festival and Canara Art and Crafts was organised for B. Des II Semester students of Department of Fashion Design, Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences on 27 February 2024. The visit to the exhibition was helpful to students. Handlooms, fashion accessories, footwear’s, home furnishing materials from all over the country was available under one roof. The artisans also discussed the sourcing of materials, inspiration for motifs and design and product development methods. The handcrafted textiles were distinctive with vibrant colours. The fabrics had very soft textures. The printed and painted fabrics were showcased in the exhibition. The Sahara art and craft festival provides an opportunity to artisans and people to interact directly with each other to know about vivid and rare collections of dying crafts. The festival had an exclusive collections of hand crafted jewellery, embroidered sarees and dress materials, beads and zari work, printed dress materials, bed sheets, sandals, hand bags from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, west Bengal and other places of India. Some of the rare collections of Kashmir embroidered shawls, plain shawls and dress materials for women, paintings from Rajasthan, Hyderabadi pearls were among the display. The upholstery materials were made of velvet velour’s in pastel shades and earthly colours. The wooden furniture’s had depicted the various historical carvings. Wall art pieces, water fountains added to the attraction at the display. Students were enriched with cultural, technical and historical depictions under one roof. The students acquired great knowledge and information and also enjoyed the experience thoroughly.
