Prestigious Guest Lecture on “Eco and Sustainability Followed in Textile, Apparel and Fashion Industry”


Department of Fashion Design Organised Prestigious Guest Lecture on Eco and Sustainability Followed in Textile, Apparel and Fashion Industry” on 11 August 2023, in A 206, Ramaiah Technology Campus, RUAS, Peenya Industrial Area, Bangalore. The Resource person Shri Kannan Krishnamurthy explained the various processes and technologies followed currently by textile, apparel and fashion Industries. Kannan also said that right decisions to be taken on the pre, post textiles and apparel waste disposal and there is urgent need to utilize advanced technologies and innovate new ways. During the guest lecture Kannan also expressed various challenges faced by Textile wet processing units i.e.: Dyes, Effluents treatments, washing etc. Mr Krishnamurthy Kannan spoke on Recycling-Waste to product development and Innovations.

Clothing is the most necessary basic thing to maintain his/​her social status and everyone spends on clothing irrespective of his/​her financial status. So all aspects of apparel, furnishings, textiles, non – wearable, etc. must be considered for all the phases of the life cycle. Collection and handling of textile waste in an eco-friendly way all our cities helps to maintain the hyegiencity of place and environment. Clean and dry textiles can be resold or donated by every citizen. The recycling of textiles is continuing and various designs of easy to recycle are predominating. Waste dumped all around, with respect to textile and apparel is a sign of in-efficiency of a system. All the textile and apparel industries should try to optimize processes and eliminate waste to zero level. In the current situation of a globalized economy, companies with zero waste strategies are more likely to survive in the long term.

The guest lecture was very informative and students gained lot of knowledge about the eco and sustainability, learnt about different types of degrading and non –degrading textiles. Understood the different method of handling pre, post-consumer textile waste into an innovative product development.
