Details
The Pattern Making Studio is equipped with the various tools and machines used in the garment manufacturing process right from whiteboards to sewing machines, from cutting and drafting tools to mannequins and dress forms.
The focus of the studio is on pattern making.
Students learn to give shape to their concepts by putting them down on paper and approaching the design from a technical perspective. Often called the ‘blueprint of a garment,’ pattern making helps create 2D renditions of a garment using size charts and dress forms. The process is viewed as crucial to creating a garment as it deals with fit, and is often the first cut of a garment.
Students are also taught about the practical aspects of sewing machine operations, attachment, and maintenance. They are trained on various stitch and seam types. They also learn to construct garments with different components and of varying fullness, using domestic and industrial sewing machines.
The studio also gives students the chance to learn about preparing basic and standard patterns, adapting patterns as per the style of the garment, calculating the marker efficiency of adapted patterns, and constructing and finishing the garments with suitable packing techniques.
