Details

Learning to sketch and paint is a fundamental skill that every fledgling designer must possess. After all, there are few more effective ways for the ideas and concepts swimming around inside you to be made comprehensible to those around you.

FAD students are taught these essential skills in the Painting and Print Studio at RUAS. From pencil and charcoal sketches to watercolor, acrylic, and oil paintings, students master the basics by replicating the work of Old Masters. Under the close guidance of our in-house artists, they are encouraged to develop their own style and learn to manage different media.

Students also learn about traditional and modern printing processes, as well as the commercial aspects of the business of printing. They are taught to sketch their creations and transfer them on to other materials like wood, fabric, and paper. They also explore various techniques like woodcutting, etching, engraving, and screenprinting.

Over the course of this process, students pick up the intricacies of handling different materials by subtractive material removal process. With the encouragement of the faculty, students learn to produce high quality designs and prints.

Set in a quiet and undisturbed part of the campus, the studio is adorned with beautiful murals and pieces of art by past students. This sets the mood for students, freeing them from unnecessary distractions and inhibitions as they dive deep into the world of art.
